Functionality Wish List

Here is a list of some functionality that I would love to include in project. Realistically, I know some of them may not be possible due to my knowledge and level of experience with Adobe Flash, or even the time frame in which to complete the project.

• Panning or scrolling across the magazine racks
• Shopping Cart (adding of total magazines and their prices as the magazines are dragged to the shopping cart)
• Animation of each page as they load
• On roll over, bring item to front
• Handwriting recognition
• On screen keyboard

I know this list will get altered as the weeks go by, whether I’m adding or subtracting from it. I am however looking forward to the challenge, as frustrating as I know it will be.

RiP! A Remix Manifesto

Copyright Infringement is HOT!

Seriously speaking, the film was very inspirational and very informative. It’s unfortunate that our creativity is being strangled but sometimes by making things difficult for creativity to take place, innovation manifests itself. The culture of sharing is a growing, and we see it evident in the trend of social networking. What then will these big companies do when there are more of us willing to share ideas and content to inspire the creation of bigger better things. RIP proves a point that I strongly agree with.

A remixers manifesto

  1. Culture always builds on the past
  2. The past always tries to control the future
  3. Our Future is becoming less free
  4. To build free societies, you must limit control of the past

Microsoft’s Secret Booklet

I stumbled upon this in my research. It’s an interesting approach, the UI seems a little awkward to me. Check it out!Picture 2

Magazine Reader (MagNet™) Use Case

General Description

MagNet™ is a web based platform and user interface that delivers a dynamic magazine reading experience. This living network can be accessed on MagNet’s™ portable magazine reader and caters to the reader who wants their content anytime, anywhere. The objective of MagNet™ is essentially to deliver a natural and dynamic magazine reading experience. The network connects readers to publishers, advertisers and a web of other magazine lovers who share similar interests. Added features to the otherwise standard printed page are sound, videos, hyperlinks, RSS, social networks, email, achieves and the ability to peruse the magazine quickly and efficiently. It brings the magazine’s content to life. MagNet™ is also capable of highlighting, book marking, clipping and saving content to a personal folder to revisit at a later date. It combines the best of traditional and digital publishing in one portable device.

All of the functions performed by this interface exist to allow users to search, access or retrieve content of any or all the magazines to which they subscribe. It prioritizes content and allows the reader to peruse the entire publication quickly and efficiently.

Scenario

Eva owns her fashion design studio that requires her to work late hours. Eva, like many other designers, is experiencing a creativity block. Frustrated and tired, she leaves the office for home. Once she’s settled on the train, she takes out her MagNet™ and quickly finds her design inspiration folder. She opens it up and does a keyword search fashion inspiration. The latest issue of “Vogue” pops to the top of her results, along with a few past issues. An article peaks her interest, but because she’s so tired, she plugs in her headphones and listens to the audio version of the article. She becomes so enthralled with videos and slideshows she misses her stop. On realizing this, she quickly bookmarks the page, sends an email of the article to a few of her employees and gets off the train.

Magnet’s Identity

Identity

I want to keep the interface of the device clean and simple, not too stylized.

Designing for a mobile lifestyle

Picture 2It’s interesting how these guys see mobile as a lifestyle and not a device. Designing to ensure the user is getting what they need, no more, no less. Making sure the necessities are accessible. In my project I know I need to consider the attention span of my user.
